Local First Arizona

Quiessence and Morning Glory Cafe have now joined the ranks of Arizona’s locally-conscious business owners!

Passionate about supporting businesses in the Valley? Then check out LFAZ’s directory of business.

Why shop locally?

  • For every two jobs national retailers bring to a community, three jobs are lost as a result of local businesses closing down.
  • When you shop locally-owned businesses, your money is re-circulated over and over and creates up to 75% more tax revenue to our community and state.
  • Independent businesses raise the standard of living in your community because they take their profits and buy products and services from other local businesses, thus creating more and more tax revenues needed for the community to thrive.

Behind the greens: Black Mesa Ranch

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

For years, David and Kathryn Heininger of Snowflake have churned out Arizona’s “Best Homegrown Goat Cheeses” at their Black Mesa Ranch.

But you may not know the best part of their story.

Black Mesa Ranch proudly raises its livestock without antibiotics, hormones or other medications/treatments and practices free-range techniques. In fact, they are the first producer in Arizona to earn “Certified Humane Raised and Handled” accreditation.

David & Kathryn HeiningerLast week, Quiessence proudly presented a special dinner series featuring Black Mesa Ranch pork and we will continue to showcase their prized cheeses on our regular menu.

If you’re looking to get your hands on the artisan cheeses, the ranch is currently out of stock due to high demand. But don’t fret! There’s plenty of craftsmanship behind their Goat’s Milk Fudge, Spiced Pecans, and Chocolate-Dipped Apricots.
